Classes
The Cortland Fire Department is uniquely positioned to provide a host of BLS, AED, and First-Aid classes to both medical professionals and laypersons. Various classes are hosted throughout the year at our fire station at 30 W. North Ave. Additionally, our instructors can travel to different locations within the community or surrounding area to offer customized training based on the end user’s schedule and needs.

American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider
2 Year Certification | 4 Hours | $40 Class Fee | Limit 15 per class
(Formally known as BLS Healthcare Provider and changed to BLS Provider with the 2015 AHA update.)
*** This class is intended for the person that is either entering or already in a public safety or healthcare career. This class is also a requirement for most college students entering the nursing program, EMT/Paramedic program, or any other healthcare or public safety programs. ***
Course Description:
This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner.
Course Content:
• 1-rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
• 2-rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
• Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant
• CPR with an advanced airway
• Critical concepts of high-quality CPR
• Relief of choking for adult, child and infant
• Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
• 2-rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant

Course Materials:
Text Book # 90-1038 or E-Book 90-1038EB (required). Students are required to purchase their own textbook or E-Book prior to the class date. These may be purchased on-line through numerous vendors. Alternatively, books may be picked up prior to class at the Cortland Fire Department for $15.

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED

*** This class is intended for the layperson who wants to learn basic CPR techniques and First Aid. ***
Course Description:
This classroom course teaches basic CPR skills such as performing a head tilt-chin lift and giving compressions and breaths. The course provides training for anyone who wants to learn basic CPR and obtain a Heartsaver course completion card.
Course Content:
• Adult CPR and AED use
• Optional modules in child CPR and AED use and infant CPR, including child and infant choking
• Optional modules in child CPR and AED use and infant CPR, including child and infant choking
Course Materials:
Text Book #90-1044 (required) Students are required to purchase their own textbook prior to the class date. Books may be purchased online through numerous vendors, such as eworldpoint.com, laerdal.com, & amazon.com. Or, books may be picked up prior to class at the Cortland Fire Department for $10.
American Heart Association BLS Instructor Class
2 year Certification | 6.0 Hours | $200 Class Fee | Limit 15 per class
($75.00 Affiliation Fee to join the Cortland Training Center is not included)

TBLS Instructor Course Pre-requisites:
Current BLS CPR card, on-line BLS Instructor Essentials completion certificate (90-1429) & Proof of TS affiliation Fee (i.e.:email from TS coordinator)
